Sewing machines have been in common houshold use since approx 1850. Within few years,  US, Canadian, English and German companies all competed fiercly to gain local and global market shares. Most of these macines made between 1855 and 1900 were richly decorated hand-crank or treadle machines. Singer Company was one of the leading manufacturers and their Singer 12 ”New Family” is a good example of a very beautiful machine with a fiddle looking base. Numerous companied copied this design for their machines.

In the late 1800’s a couple of German companies started to produce sewing machines for children. The companies Müller and Casige then started to copy each others machines and produced large amount of small sewing mahcines within some few years. They were typically gifts to kids of very well-off parents. Some of these 1890 to 1910 machines were advanced and very beautiful sewing machines sewing a chain stitch. Müller 6 is one of these first attractive sewing machines. In the following pages I have included an overview of some of our machines.
